Rent reporting in Canada: questions and answers
Everything tenants ask us about reporting rent with LeazeSure. Can't find your answer? Email support@leazesure.ca.
Can I report my rent to a credit bureau in Canada?
Yes. With LeazeSure, tenants in Canada can report their own monthly rent payments to Equifax Canada. You verify your ID, upload your lease, then upload proof of each rent payment. Your landlord doesn't need to sign up.
Which credit bureau does LeazeSure report to?
LeazeSure reports monthly rent payments to Equifax Canada, with your written consent. LeazeSure is an independent Canadian company and is not owned by Equifax.
Is LeazeSure free?
Yes. LeazeSure is free for tenants. There are no payments, subscriptions or paid plans.
Will reporting my rent help my credit scores?
Reporting your rent may help build your credit history, especially if you are new to credit. Results vary. Both on-time and late payments are reported, and no single action is guaranteed to change your credit scores.
Does my landlord need to sign up or agree?
No. You report your own rent. Your landlord doesn't need an account and doesn't need to do anything.
What do I need to sign up?
An email address, a government photo ID (driver's licence, passport or provincial photo ID) for a quick ID check with a selfie, your signed lease, and proof of your rent payment for the current month.
What counts as proof of rent payment?
An Interac e-Transfer confirmation or screenshot, a rent receipt, a cheque, or a bank statement showing the payment. We read the payment date, amount, recipient and reference number for you to check.
Which months can I report?
Reporting starts with the month of your first uploaded proof. Earlier months can't be reported. Each month opens for upload on your rent due day.
Are late payments reported too?
Yes. Both on-time and late rent payments are reported. Days late are counted from your rent due day to the date you paid, not the date you uploaded.
Can roommates report the same lease?
Yes. The primary tenant can invite up to 3 roommates on the same lease. Each roommate verifies their own ID and gives consent; the primary tenant uploads the monthly proof.
How long should I keep reporting?
For your full lease. Stopping early may cause your reported rental history to be removed.
What if something reported is wrong?
Raise a dispute from your account or email disputes@leazesure.ca. That month is held from reporting while we review it, and we email you when the status changes.
Is my information safe?
Your ID details, lease, payment proofs, date of birth and SIN are encrypted. You can download a copy of your data or delete your account at any time.
